WAPA Permanent Secretary Honoured at Ruby Summit for Supporting Women Entrepreneurs
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Rianat Ajibike Onigbanjo, delivered the keynote address at the Ruby Summit hosted by the NECA Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW), Lagos Chapter, on Friday at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja.
Speaking on the theme, “The Role of Young Women Entrepreneurs in Community Development,” Mrs. Onigbanjo praised NNEW for its continuous support of women in business since its founding in 2005. She also commended the creation of the Ruby Arm in 2021, which focuses on promoting and giving visibility to young female entrepreneurs.
She highlighted how the Summit’s theme aligns with WAPA’s mission under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which includes empowering women through vocational training, business clinics, economic initiatives, and public-private partnerships.
Mrs. Onigbanjo stressed that empowering young women isn’t just a gender-based goal, but a key strategy for sustainable development and strong community growth. She encouraged all stakeholders to build stronger support systems that help women thrive socially and economically.
In recognition of her inspiring speech and continuous efforts in promoting women's empowerment in Lagos State, she received the “Outstanding Advocate for Women Entrepreneurship & Community Impact” award from NNEW. She was also presented a special appreciation gift by NEXUS, one of the event’s sponsors.
The event was well-attended by many female business owners, including Dr. (Mrs.) Ekaette Etibet, Chairperson of NNEW Lagos, who described the platform as “one of purpose, where women are inspired to rise.”
