Sanwo-Olu Reaffirms Lagos’ Commitment to Solving Real Estate Challenges

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has restated his administration’s strong commitment to tackling the key challenges in the real estate sector by using fresh, innovative solutions.

He made this known during the 75th World Congress of the International Real Estate Federation, held recently at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event, themed “Global Real Estate Renaissance”, brought real estate experts from around the world together.

Representing the Governor at the event, the Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, said the theme reflects the global changes happening in the real estate industry—changes driven by innovation, sustainability, and inclusive urban development.

He noted that housing plays a major role in economic growth and affects jobs, livelihoods, and social stability. That’s why the Lagos State Government is focusing on expanding access to housing, especially for low- and middle-income earners.

The Governor explained that in the past few years, the state has launched many initiatives to provide more affordable housing.

“We have used a multi-layered approach,” he said. “This includes dedicated housing budgets, support for private developers, and strong public-private partnerships. Through this, we’ve delivered nearly 10,000 housing units in six years, and we plan to add over 14,000 more by 2026.”

These projects, he said, not only make housing more affordable, but also improve living conditions, create jobs, and help grow the economy.

He encouraged international investors to see Lagos as a promising market, adding that the state is open to using global best practices and sustainable methods to meet its housing and urban development goals.

The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was represented at the congress by the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru. Former Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo also spoke at the event as the keynote speaker. This marks the first time the global real estate congress has been held in Africa.
