Sanwo-Olu Listens: Lagos Government Gives Financial Support to 250 Vulnerable Residents
As part of efforts to ease the financial burden on vulnerable residents, the Lagos State Government has provided direct financial assistance to 250 beneficiaries under the Sanwo-Olu Listen Financial Assistance Programme.
The event took place at the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement in Alausa, Ikeja, where beneficiaries received their cheques.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, reaffirmed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to reducing the hardship faced by low-income and vulnerable Lagosians.
“This initiative shows that the Governor is listening and taking action. It’s part of our mission to make sure no one is left behind,” Dr. Afolabi said.
He explained that the support was given after a careful review process to ensure only genuine applicants were selected. The beneficiaries include:
-
Individuals with serious medical challenges
-
Small business owners needing a boost
-
People struggling with house rent
-
Residents facing extreme financial hardship
Dr. Afolabi encouraged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely and continue to stay connected with the government through proper channels. He emphasized that this programme is part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s plan for inclusive governance that truly listens to and supports the people.
He also recalled that during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing, it was announced that ₦1.6 billion had been set aside to support Lagosians through the financial assistance programme — a clear sign that this administration is delivering on its promises.
Some of the beneficiaries shared their stories:
-
Mr. Taofeek Okunlola admitted he was skeptical at first, but after applying due to struggles with his small business, he was surprised and grateful to be selected.
-
Mrs. Comfort Balogun expressed deep appreciation, noting that the funds would go a long way in settling part of her child’s hospital bills.
Also in attendance were Engr. Sholabomi Shasore, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, along with other directors from the office.
