Mushin LG Refutes Negligence Claims, Highlights Ongoing Security Measures

The Mushin Local Government has denied allegations of negligence in tackling recent hoodlum activities within the community, asserting that coordinated efforts are ongoing to maintain law and order.

The response came after an online report accused both the Nigeria Police Force and local authorities of failing to protect residents.

In a statement issued Thursday by Eyitayo Ijaoribe, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Emmanuel Bamigboye, the council described the report as “misleading and disparaging,” claiming it sought to undermine the collaborative efforts of the police and local leadership.

Vigilante Operations Backed by Government

Contrary to the claim that vigilante groups emerged due to government inaction, the statement clarified that the vigilante teams currently operating in Mushin were formally constituted through a joint initiative between Chairman Bamigboye, the Nigeria Police (Area D Command), and community leaders.

“This step was taken to curtail the activities of hoodlums and prevent further attacks on residents,” the statement read.

42 Suspects Arrested, Arraigned in Court

The local government noted that 42 suspected hoodlums were arrested earlier in the week and have since been arraigned in court as part of ongoing security enforcement operations.

To support law enforcement, the council highlighted recent contributions made by Chairman Bamigboye, including the donation of two Sienna space wagons to the Area D Command and the CP Tactical Team, aimed at improving emergency response and regular patrols.

Safety Measures for Markets

As part of broader security efforts, the Chairman has also directed market leaders within Mushin to enforce a 7:00 PM closing time until peace is fully restored in the area.

The local government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents, emphasizing that security remains a top priority.
