Lagos to Release Harmonised School Calendar in Two Weeks

The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, has announced that the approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 school year will be ready within the next two weeks.

He made this known during the final stakeholders’ meeting on the harmonised academic calendar, held at the Education Resource Centre, Ojodu. The meeting brought together key players in the education sector who agreed on a uniform school calendar to ensure consistency across all public and private schools in the state.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Adepeju Adeyemi of the Public Affairs Unit, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA).

According to the statement, the calendar now awaits official release by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

Emphasis on Teacher Wellbeing

Commissioner Alli-Balogun also highlighted the importance of teacher welfare, reaffirming the need for a mandatory two-month break after the third term.

“Our teachers deserve time to rest, reflect, and spend time with their families. The long break at the end of the academic year is meant for this,” he said.
“Unfortunately, school-related activities often take up this period, and that trend must stop.”

The harmonised academic calendar aims to streamline learning schedules, promote better planning, and improve the overall quality of education in Lagos State.
