Lagos Introduces E-Call-Up System for Tankers to Tackle Traffic and Improve Road Safety … New Policy Takes Effect Monday, June 16, 2025

In a bold move to improve traffic flow, boost logistics efficiency, and enhance road safety, the Lagos State Government has announced the enforcement of an Electronic Call-Up (E-Call-Up) system for all tankers and articulated vehicles operating along the Lekki-Epe corridor. The new policy will officially go live on Monday, June 16, 2025.

What the New System Means

Appearing on TVC News, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa, explained that:

  • All tankers coming into Lagos to load or offload must now register and schedule their entry using the E-call-up platform.

  • This digital system is designed to coordinate truck movements, prevent roadside parking, and reduce disruption to traffic.

“Lagosians lose up to four hours daily to traffic,” Giwa noted, adding that unregulated truck activity costs the state an estimated ₦4 trillion each year in lost productivity.

Key Features of the System

  • Authority to Load (ATL) documents must be uploaded online.

  • Tanker operators must pre-book parking slots before arriving.

  • The platform will collect vital travel and cargo details to manage traffic more efficiently.

  • Approved parking hubs will have restrooms, kitchens, and electricity to ensure driver comfort and safety.

Support Infrastructure Already in Place

To support this initiative, the State Government has approved seven designated truck parks along the Lekki-Epe axis. These facilities will help ensure the system works smoothly and reduces roadside congestion.

Backed by Years of Planning

Mr. Giwa emphasized that the new policy is the result of over two years of consultations with key stakeholders in the logistics and transport sector. The E-call-up system is part of Lagos’ larger transport reform strategy aimed at turning the city into a smart, efficient, and livable metropolis.

“This is about better coordination, smoother roads, and safer communities,” he said.
