Lagos Health Commissioner Visits Somolu General Hospital, Announces Major Upgrade
Professor Akin Abayomi, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, recently paid a surprise visit to General Hospital Somolu to inspect the condition of the facility.
He explained that the visit was part of preparations for a major reconstruction project planned by the Lagos State Government. The hospital is set to receive a full upgrade.
Prof. Abayomi said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has listened to the community’s call for a modern healthcare facility and is now committed to building a large, well-equipped hospital to serve the people of Somolu.
The Commissioner praised the hospital’s management and staff for their hard work in delivering quality care despite limited space and resources. He was especially impressed by the high number of patients—both inpatients and outpatients—being treated every day.
“The dedication of the staff is commendable, and this new hospital will not only improve healthcare but also boost development in the area,” he said.
Dr. Mustapha Adebola Quadri, the Medical Director/CEO of the hospital, welcomed the Commissioner and his team and expressed his appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for prioritizing healthcare in Somolu. He promised that the hospital team would continue to provide affordable and high-quality care, in line with the state's T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.
During the visit, Professor Abayomi inspected the proposed site for the new hospital and toured several key departments in the current facility, including:
-
Post-natal ward
-
Male and female wards
-
Operating theatre
-
Accident and emergency unit
-
General Outpatient Department (GOPD)
-
Laboratory
-
Eye clinic
The visit marks a step forward in Lagos State’s mission to improve healthcare infrastructure and services for all residents.
