Lagos Gears Up for UN Tourism Meeting in 2025
As part of preparations for the 68th UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa (CAF) 2025, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, attended a key meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
The event, hosted by the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, brought together top players in the tourism industry. Attendees included the UN Tourism Secretary-General, Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili, and Nigeria’s former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. They were welcomed by the current Minister, Barr. Hannatu Musawa.
Mr. Aregbe said Lagos State is fully committed to promoting sustainable tourism by engaging young people, building strong partnerships, and reviving cultural heritage.
“We’re not just preparing to host Africa,” Aregbe said. “We’re ready to show the world the incredible power of Nigerian culture and creativity. CAF 2025 is a great opportunity to boost tourism, arts, and culture, while also encouraging meaningful dialogue and partnerships.”
He also spoke about some of the Lagos State Government’s current efforts to:
-
Empower creatives and young talent
-
Build and improve tourism infrastructure
-
Use digital technology to reach a global audience
Mr. Aregbe stressed the importance of collaboration—both nationally and across Africa—in helping the tourism sector reach its full potential.
The event’s theme, “Boosting Social Impact and Education in Tourism via Innovation, AI, and Creative Industries in Africa,” focused on how technology and creativity can transform tourism across the continent. It also explored how innovation and inclusive education can open new doors for Africa’s youth.
