Governor Sanwo-Olu Launches New Projects in Ibeju-Lekki
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area on Wednesday to open several new projects. These include:
-
A new multi-storey council office building
-
A well-equipped legislative chamber
-
A newly constructed interlocking road
The new council building, named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, replaces the old secretariat that was destroyed during the October 2020 protests. The new building was built by the council chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Olowa.
The Governor also laid the foundation for a new housing project called Citrus Gardens, which is being developed with private partners.
Sanwo-Olu said these projects show the chairman’s dedication to improving local development and governance. He praised the council for its strength and leadership in rebuilding after the 2020 unrest.
“It is with great joy that I hand over these projects to the people of Ibeju-Lekki,” the Governor said. “They show our commitment to improving the lives of people at the grassroots level.”
He added that the projects will boost job creation, improve the council’s income, and support the area's growth. The new road, named after Governor Sanwo-Olu, will make it easier to access undeveloped parts of the council area and attract more development.
The Governor also shared plans to fix other important roads in Ibeju-Lekki, including Eleranigbe Road, which will help connect more parts of the area. He mentioned a new bridge being built from Sangotedo to the future Lekki airport area, which will further open up the community.
Council Chairman Olowa said the new council secretariat will improve how the local government works. It now has:
-
Spacious and modern offices
-
High-speed internet
-
24-hour solar-powered lighting
-
CCTV security
-
A dedicated ICT centre
He called it one of the most advanced local government buildings in Nigeria.
Olowa also said the new legislative building will help councillors work better in a professional setting. He added that the Citrus Gardens housing project will offer:
-
Modern homes
-
Paved roads
-
Round-the-clock security
-
Recreation areas
-
Green spaces
He said it will help grow the local economy and set new standards for urban living in Ibeju-Lekki.
