Lagos State Appoints Dr. (Mrs.) Ayodeji Ogunmuyiwa as Provost of LASCON
The Lagos State Government has officially appointed Dr. (Mrs.) Ayodeji Ogunmuyiwa as the new Provost of the Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON), Midwifery and Public Health Nursing. The appointment was formalised through a letter signed by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro.
Presenting the letter on behalf of the State Government at Alausa on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, described the appointment as timely, aligning with the government’s ongoing efforts to reposition its tertiary health institutions and enhance healthcare delivery systems for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
He underscored the crucial role of LASCON in addressing the healthcare needs of the state’s growing population by producing world-class health professionals.
“Dr. Ogunmuyiwa’s appointment is based purely on merit, reflecting her vast administrative experience, strong professional background, and remarkable achievements,” the Commissioner stated. He expressed confidence that under her leadership, LASCON will fully leverage its human capital and modern infrastructure to become one of the leading nursing institutions in West Africa, known for excellence, professionalism, and discipline.
Commissioner Sule congratulated Dr. Ogunmuyiwa and assured her of the Ministry’s full support to ensure a successful tenure, fulfilling the vision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
In her response, Dr. Ogunmuyiwa expressed profound gratitude to the State Government for entrusting her with this vital role. She pledged to uphold LASCON’s academic and professional standards and to work diligently to ensure graduates are globally competitive, maintain a smooth academic calendar, and elevate the College’s reputation locally and internationally.
“I am committed to nurturing an institution that produces exceptional nursing professionals who will make significant contributions to the health sector,” she affirmed.
Dr. Ogunmuyiwa brings a wealth of expertise to her new role. She is a Registered Nurse, Registered Nurse Educator (Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria), and a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She holds a Ph.D. in Nursing Science from Babcock University, two Master’s degrees with distinction—one in Nursing Science (University of Botswana) and another in Measurement and Evaluation in Education (University of Lagos)—as well as a First Class Honours Bachelor of Nursing Science from the University of Botswana and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Lagos.
A seasoned clinician, educator, and researcher, Dr. Ogunmuyiwa is also a graduate of Science and Laboratory Technology from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and a multiple award-winning professional renowned for her contributions to nursing education and practice. She has mentored and supervised numerous nursing interns and students across various institutions within and outside Nigeria.
She succeeds Mrs. Anuoluwapo Priesly, who served as the Acting Provost of LASCON.
